Sometime in April 2021, Grade 8 student Gauge Vanderlei Teng Elviña sent an initial video for screening to Drum Off Global, an international drum solo competition. Playing the drums since age nine, Gauge did so without expectations; he just wanted to take part in the competition, gain experience, and compete with drummers from all over the world. Not only did Gauge got past the screening process; his original, 4-minute drum solo video submission clinched him a most coveted slot in the Grand Finals held last October 28, 2021.
