Alternative Education

The La Salle Green Hills-Adult Night High School (LSGH-ANHS), now known as La Salle Green Hills Alternative Education (LSGHAE), was established by the De La Salle Brothers in June 1978. This initiative was in response to fulfilling the mission and vision of its founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle. Its primary goal was to provide free education to the underprivileged through a five-year secondary education program.

A Brief History of La Salle Green Hills Alternative Education

In its first school year, 1978-1979, 16 students began their studies under the care of Br. Augustine Boquer FSC, the first director of ANHS. Among the pioneer teachers were Mr. Felipe Basa, Mr. Pablo Gamo, Mr. Leodivico Lacsamana, Mr. Teodoro Geronimo, Fr. Jose Garcia, Mrs. Natividad Bugayong, Ms. Marlina Fagela, Mrs. Estrella Pensica, and Mrs. Frances San Miguel. Only four of the 16 students completed the five-year program, with the first graduation held in March 1983.

In 1985, ANHS began being led by a full-time principal, a tradition that continues to this day.

The Non-Formal Education (NFE) program was launched in 1989 to prepare students with skills-based courses suitable for their abilities. Seventeen students graduated from the NFE Program in 1990.

TVET Accreditation

In December 2002, TESDA certified the Non-Formal Education (NFE) department after the continuous refinement of its Competency-Based Curriculum. Starting in 2011-2012, the NFE Program was rebranded as the Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Program, emphasizing enhanced and specialized skills training. TESDA awarded WTR (With Training Regulation) Program Registration to TVET courses in 2011, and in February 2013, recognized ANHS as one of the few Accredited Competency Assessment Centers in Metro Manila.

Continuous Growth and Adaptation

For 42 years, LSGH Alternative Education has remained committed to its dual mission:

  1. To form true Lasallians grounded in spiritual and moral values, academics, skills, cultural appreciation, and social responsibility.
  2. To assist in creating livelihood opportunities to reduce, if not eliminate, the poverty faced by its students and their families.

With the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533 or the K-12 Law, ANHS adapted its system in school year 2014-2015, transitioning to the K-12 curriculum. Consultations with parents, students, and teachers paved the way for innovations, such as advanced courses for Grade 9 and Grade 10 students on Saturdays and during the summer.

Grade 11 students were admitted for the Academic (ABM) and TVL (Home Economics) tracks starting in school year 2017-2018. This school year, HUMSS, STEM and ICT are also being offered to students.
