Last December 5, 2025, La Salle Green Hills Alternative Education hosted an impactful series of Online Professional Development sessions that focused on the unique challenges and opportunities of teaching Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).The event brought together educators and correctional stakeholders to gain insights from world-class experts on the transformative power of education within the justice system.

The session featured Dr. Baz Dreisinger (John Jay College of Criminal Justice) who discussed the role of learning in reshaping lives ‘behind bars’ and; Dr. Raymund E. Narag (Southern Illinois University) who shared critical perspectives on the practical realities and hurdles of teaching in custodial settings.

The initiative successfully equipped participants with the specialized competencies and broader perspective needed to serve incarcerated learners more effectively.
