We congratulate Alessandra Isabelle S. Gazo, Grade 11 HUMSS student, for winning the 2021 Harvard GlobalWE Essay Contest, an annual event that allows participants from high schools across the world to engage in topics relating to women’s rights and freedoms.
Launched in 2015, the contest has since expanded, attracting participants from Germany, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, Turkey, India, South Korea, and the United States. Alessandra’s winning entry dubbed, “Teenage Pregnancy; The Downfall of the Youth”, revolves around the question: “What is the biggest challenge facing women and girls in your country today?”
For her win, she received a certificate, a copy of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book called, “We Should All Be Feminists”, and an invitation to serve as a judge for similar contests in other countries.
All winning essays from the various contests around the world can be seen in their website, www.globalwe-essays.org.
