LSGH High School Students Win Awards in the 1st Southern Luzon Model United Nations Conference 2016 (SLMUNC)
Several LSGH high school students from Grade 10 and the 4th Year level won important awards in the 1st Southern Luzon Model United Nations Conference 2016 (SLMUNC) organized by the UP Model United Nations held last April 9-10, 2016 at the University of the Philippines – Los Baños. The students who won awards during the Conference were:
- Mr. Joaquin M. Joyas of 10E and Mr. Jeremy Martin C. Assis of 10F for Best Position Papers for their assigned Committees; and
- Mr. Renato Jacinto Q. Mantaring of 4A, Mr. Miguelo Emmanuel M. Tapang of 10C, and Mr. Julio Gerardo Villegas of 10A for Best Delegates for their respective Committees
The other students who represented our school were Mr. Theodore Christopher C. Alberto of 10C, Mr. Simon Gregory V. Pinga of 10C, Mr. Lance Giggio L. Aquino of 10F, and Mr. Joshua Exequel S. Cabrera of 4A. They were accompanied by their Social Science teachers, Ms. Roxanne Rose M. Evangelista and Dr. Evangeline S. Panganiban, together with the Social Science Coordinator, Mr. Mario B. Cortez.
The Conference was designed to introduce high school and college students to the concept of Model United Nations and to provide them a stage where they can practice their skills in crafting workable resolutions to address global issues and concerns. Working in Committees on Environmental Concerns, Special Political and Decolonization, and Disarmament and International Security, they had the opportunity to actively engage with other delegates in navigating through the maze of conflicting national interests to find common ground.
