LMO HEADS RELIEF OPERATION

Lasallians in partnership for disaster aid

On September 15, 2018, Typhoon Mangkhut, local name Ompong, made a landfall in Cagayan province. The Category 5 typhoon caused widespread flooding and multiple landslides, damaged houses, agricultural crops and vital infrastructures. The local government declared a state of calamity in Regions I, II, III and CAR.

The province of Benguet was one of those badly affected. Because of landslides, communities were cut-off and major crops were greatly damaged.

La Salle Green Hills, through the Lasallian Mission Office (LMO), activated the relief operations to aid the affected families of typhoon Ompong last September 29 at the Bishop’s House, Baguio Cathedral. Delivered were the following items: 50 sacks of rice, 50 boxes of canned sardines, 83 boxes of corned beef. The Alumni Office also donated 13 boxes of bottled water.

The mission was a success through the collaboration with other institutions as partners of LSGH. The EEI Corporation, through our alumnus, Mr. Rodrigo Mantaring, provided a 10-wheeler truck as transport vehicle and the Diocesan Social Action of Baguio headed by Fr. Manuel Flores, Jr. facilitated the distribution of relief goods to the areas of Bokod, Kibungan and Bakun.
