The Lasallian community celebrated Gawad Parangal 2017 at the Br. Rafael S. Donato Center for Performing Arts last August 31. First celebrated in 1980, the event recognized the exemplary work and services that the school’s teachers, administrators and staff gave to the institution through the years.

The program started with a Thanksgiving Mass, after which recognition was given to employees who stayed with the school for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years. The retirees were also given special citations.

Other distinctions given were the Grade School Model Support Staff Awards, Grade School Model Teacher Awards, High School Model Support Staff Awards, High School Model Teacher Awards, Parents-Employers’ Association (PEA) Outstanding Teachers and Support Staff Awards, Institutional Offices Model Faculty and Support Staff Awards, Parent-Couple Award for Exemplary Service, St. Benilde Teacher Exemplar Award, St. Joseph the Worker Award and Juan Medrano Service Awards.

LSGH President Br. Victor Franco FSC, who conferred the honors, lauded the awardees for their dedicated service, grit and strength of character. Quoting the adage “It takes a village to educate a child,” he acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the entire LSGH village – teachers, staff and parents.

Br. Vic also urged the Gawad Parangal audience to strive to make LSGH a happy school by being happy people. Quoting Gretchen Rubin of “The Happiness Project,” he told them, “One of the reasons people are happy is that they like their work. If you like your work, you’re more inclined to do it. Happy people bring enthusiasm with them. Happy people are also more altruistic.”

Congratulations to all our awardees!
