FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
December 6 and 7, 2016 were very special days for our Grade 3 pupils (as well as a few of the 4th and 5th Graders) because they received, for the very first time, the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Chapel of the Divine Child at LSGH. The pupils had been preparing since the start of the year for this important occasion in their spiritual lives. All their teachers worked as a team to rehearse the pupils and prepared the needed materials, like certificates and medallions. The pupils’ spiritual preparation for their First Holy Communion culminated in November when they received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Their parents also underwent a formation session to orient them on their important role, and to equip them with the spiritual values needed in effectively nurturing the first communicants.
On the day of their First Holy Communion, clad in formal barong attire, the pupils displayed their best selves. The first communicants precisely conducted every single movement that they were trained to do: their focused decorum, their unison singing of songs, their rehearsed movements in carrying out their assigned tasks, the delivery by the mass readers, commentators and cantors – all these summed up to an experience that was more than spirit-filled and awe-inspiring. One parent who watched teary-eyed, sighed as she said, “Ang galing galing! Nakaka-iyak!”
The active participation of selected parents and the supportive presence of the Brothers (Br. Victor A. Franco, FSC; Br. Rafael A. Reyes, FSC; Br. Ruben P. Caluyong, FSC; Br. Alexander Ervin T. Diaz, FSC) and school administrators made the event a joyful and uplifting moment to remember.
